SEVERAL FACTORS CONTRIBUTE TO SPECIAL FEELING
It is quite natural for humans that we remember peculiar presents from friends and parents, no matter the gifts are physical or mental. On the other hand, this phenomenon is quite weird, because we often forget things we purchase for ourselves, which may be very expensive or rarely available. In effect, it is the mental factor that induces towards this feeling: friends don't often give gifts to us, and we will be deeply moved when we receive one.
As a threshold matter, gifts or presents from parents stand for their love for their children. Parents have a lot reasons to purchase special things, such as a watch, a cake or a bike, to reward offspring. As a result, backgrounds, or reasons make sons and daughters recall forever. For instance, my father promised me a special gift to me on condition that I would get a good performance in final exams, but he didn't say what kind of gift it was. Then, as any one else would do, I worked hard, and endeavored, and did have high score finally. Father kept his words: the gift turned out to be a watch. I often remember this gift, since it represented my hard work and father's love.
Secondly, our friends surely do not give us valuable items everyday. In some kind of sense, the low frequency of receiving gifts from our friends also makes us cherish these certain gifts. For example, some people only receive special things when they have birthday: which typically is one time within one year. Thus, under this circumstance, folks may remember whatever their friends send to them. Perhaps merely "Happy Birthday!" greeting dose impress us greatly, because we will never hear it again until next year. Therefore, scarcity of presents is an important factor in making us remember them.
Thirdly, presents' value is another potential factor that folks may admit without doubt. As a common sense, an invaluable diamond or automobiles certainly will not be forgotten easily from receiver's standpoint. If economical cost of gifts is worth one month's salary, or even more, receivers may remember these precious things even in their dreams. Thus, though some persons might be reluctant to admit, it is a fact that the more expensive a present is, the more frequently we remember it.
In summary, there are still other factors that result in folks' recollection. However, from the aspect of psychology, scarcity, high value, and meanings behind presents are the pivotal roles in making people remember specific gifts and presents.
